| ใช้ร้องขอบางอย่าง (ที่ไม่เป็นทางการ) – Can you help me please? | ใช้ร้องขอบางอย่าง (ที่เป็นทางการ) – Could you pass me the salt please? |
| บอกความเป็นไปได้ในปัจจุบัน (Present) – It can get very cold there at night. | บอกความเป็นไปได้ในอดีต (Past) – could + have + past participle – What? You could have broken your leg. |
| ให้ความช่วยเหลือ – Can I carry your bags for you? | ให้คำแนะนำ – We could go to the movies if you like. |
| Cannot – ไม่อนุญาติ – You cannot smoke in this room. | ใช้แสดงเงื่อนไขของ Can – would be able to – If we had some oranges, I could make you some fresh juice. |
